The Historic Hanapepe Swinging Bridge

The Hanapepe Swinging bridge is one of Hanapepe’s most popular tourist destination. It is built over Hanapepe River and links the old town of Hanapepe in Kauai County, Hawaii to the Hanapepe Valley on the west bank. It was built in 1911, as the only way for the locals to cross the river, but was destroyed extensively after Hurricane Iniki in 1992.  It was restored again with wooden planks and cables that made it more stable and less swaying. The bridge is still explored by curious tourist who want to experience the swinging and swaying of the bridge as well as local farmers to bring the produce across.

Its total length is 186.0 ft and deck width is 3.0 ft.

After you cross the bridge, you come across a lovely green building known as The Bridge gallery. It is run by award winning photographers Jan Brookshier and her husband Ken Brookshier. Ken also specializes in custom framing the pictures and other work of arts.
